Literacy Project Reflection
My Project
I chose to design a poster campaign comparing the effects of a physical book and reading online. I read about research conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics that says the action of turning pages in a physical book enhances comprehension and memory retention. Additionally, a study published in the journal "PLOS ONE" found that reading physical books leads to better sleep quality, as the absence of blue light emitted by screens reduces sleep-disrupting effects. The goal of my project was to spread awareness of these facts and others.
Design Explanation
I wanted to design posters that avoided the colors of the school as well as basic formatting. So I used colors that I didn’t usually see around the school and formatted them in ways that were unique. To find content for my posters I found research from various sites like “PLOS ONE.” I placed the posters in the second-floor hallway because that is the hall with the most traffic. It’s also the hall with the most people standing around for some reason.
Reflection
At first, I thought this project was a lot bigger than I thought it was and I planned weeks in advance. So I had to scrap that plan and change everything, but I still kept my goal of getting students to read physical books over reading ebooks or online summaries. I think my project was received well or at least my design worked because after I hung up my last poster I turned and noticed that an underclassman was reading it. I think that the posters’ effectiveness will stay the same over time as long as they’re up because they can serve as a reminder to read physical books even if you've already read the poster.
It was a really good idea to use colors that weren't around the school, I don't think I would've thought of that.
ReplyDeleteGurl you have done it again, constantly raising the bar for us all, and doing it flawlessly. I'd like to say I'm surprised, but I know who you are. I've seen it up close and personal.
ReplyDeleteI saw one of your posters yesterday, very captivating!
ReplyDeleteI love the posters and the idea! I saw one in the hall and really liked what was on it!
